The Move That Proved Organization Moves With You

Oftentimes, prospective clients will get on the phone with me and tell me they’re only staying in their current place for six months or a year (common in NYC) and to them, it may not feel “worth it” to install Elfa closets or spend money on organizing products. But I always tell them: “Yes, it absolutely is worth it” and this story right here proves why.

Organization isn’t just about your space, it’s about peace of mind. Whether you’re in a home for six months or six years, having a system makes your day-to-day life so much smoother. Mornings and evenings feel lighter when everything has a place, cleanup takes minutes instead of hours, and moving becomes infinitely easier. When your belongings are categorized and contained, whether in bins, drawers, or boxes, you’re already halfway packed for your next move.

The sisters in this story are the perfect example. They both work in the fashion industry and are in the process of building their personal brands so their wardrobes aren’t just clothing; they’re an extension of their professional identity.

Between the designer pieces, investment bags, and carefully curated shoes, we wanted to make sure their space reflected the same level of intention and sophistication they bring to their work. Their style deserved systems that elevated it, not piles and chaos that hid it.

The original installation, an extra bedroom turned into a walk-in closet.

They first reached out to Shelfie in July 2024 right before moving into their apartment. They needed help organizing all their clothing, shoes, bags, and coats so we designed and installed Elfa closet systems across their home, even turning an extra bedroom into a walk-in closet for one of the girls.

Fast forward to August 2025 when they called Shelfie back. The sisters were moving again (as one does in NYC) and expressed concern that the new apartment closets were smaller than before. But I assured them it wouldn’t be a problem and reminded them to bring all their Elfa parts and pieces in the move.

Once they settled into the new space, we came in and took precise measurements of every closet. From there, we designed brand-new layouts based on their current clothing, shoe, bag, and jacket inventory, treating the new space as if there was no existing Elfa to ensure we built exactly what they needed. After finalizing the designs, we re-used all their existing Elfa components, adding only the new parts necessary to complete the redesign.

The result? A fresh, perfectly tailored setup in their new home without starting from scratch. Their investment in Elfa paid off not just once, but twice.

If you’re living somewhere temporarily, it’s easy to think, “I’ll wait until I move to get organized.”

But that “wait” period is still your life. You deserve to live in a space that feels good now.

Even if it’s six months. Even if it’s a rental. Even if you know it’s not your forever home.
