The Selfie Behind Shelfie
Hi Shelfie Friends! I’m Sara, Shelfie founder and a Detroit native living in Manhattan for over 11 years. I graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication and a specialization in Behavioral Social Sciences. For 6.5 years I worked in Publishing and Digital Advertising Technology at Hearst, Warner Brothers & Time Inc. for brands including GOLF Magazine, This Old House, Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Redbook, Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes.
Eventually, I ended up in the Ad Tech space and after 1.5 years, reached a point in my career where I no longer felt fulfilled by my work. Inevitably, I was laid off from two jobs in that 1.5 years and took it as a sign to change my path. I quickly had to figure out a means to support myself and afford my pricey Manhattan rent. As an emotionally stable person, it came as quite a surprise when I found myself in the midst of a midnight meltdown as I felt overwhelmed and uneasy about the future. I desired a career that would allow me to make a positive impact on others lives while truly enjoying the work at hand. When considering next steps, I thought about what I was great at and also how I enjoyed spending my free time. Once I considered both those things, the answer was obvious. Home Organization. I’d spent hours on end planning apartment projects and was extremely passionate about the home decor and organizing space since childhood. With a strong understanding for the busy Manhattan lifestyle and first-hand knowledge of the space struggle in the city, I put the pieces of the puzzle together and boom, the idea for Shelfie was born. I urge you to invite me into your home and Treat YoShelf ;)
